Guard Guide
Hello! Welcome to the Guard Guide. Please make sure that you carefully read all the guidelines and policies. If you are questioning a decision you must make in game, please refer to this guide.
Notice
Please note that this document is a guide and is not a definitive end-all-be-all on what guards can or cannot do. Guard reports are only considered on the basis that the guard maliciously abused their power. False guard reports are punishable by up to a 24-hour ban for the first offense.
Ultimately, the administrators and owners of the server have final say on the interpretation of this guide and its related policies.
If you would like to report a guard please open a ticket here by clicking "Report a player". Please be prepared to provide an objective accounting of events and evidence.

Guard Menu
The guard menu can be accessed by running /guard
, this menu has many of the major functions that you will need to access while on duty. The diamond sword can be used to toggle whether you are on duty. The nether star is used to assign wanted status to nearby players. The glass bottle and book are currently unused and should not be clicked. The redstone torch can be used to force a player to perform a task (they may refuse). The chest is used to send confiscated items to the armory.

#
No Surprise Arrests
Make sure you are neither involved in nor looking directly at a conflict or infraction. It is best practice to go on duty in a neutral area and travel from there to wherever you are needed.
#
Unbiased Guarding
When going On duty, any opinions about another prisoner should be left behind and should not affect your guarding. Guards are here to keep every player equally safe.

Wanted Levels
Stars are used to mark and target offenders who break the rules. The wanted system is only intended to be used in instances of fleeing. It can also be used to assign a prisoner the appropriate jail sentence. Generally speaking, higher star amounts are usually reserved for repeat offenders.
You can follow prisoners at any wanted level to dissuade further illicit conduct.
If you spot a prisoner at a 4 or 5 wanted level, however, they must be jailed on sight. An additional offense is not necessary. These individuals are deemed highly wanted, and you will be paid a bounty for arresting them.
Prisoners may turn themselves in at 4 or 5 stars in exchange for ten minutes being removed from their sentence. Please contact an administrator to lower their sentence. Acceptance of a lenient sentence is at the discretion of the administrators. They can and will turn down these requests to repeat offenders.
#
Glowing
When an offender presents a particular danger to the community, it might be helpful to have them glow so they are easily visible and identifiable. The criteria for when players can glow are defined below.
You must physically see the offender in order to begin a glow vote. You may not start a vote for a high wanted level player to glow simply because they login or are near you while you are off duty.
#
Don't Judge by Chat
You are not permitted to punish any prisoner based on hearsay. You are only able to act upon an infraction you witness.
#
Fair Chance
Give prisoners a fair chance to hand over Contraband (i.e. weapons, growables), call out their username, and countdown from 5 in chat. You can also use /force to count down for you automatically. If they refuse to hand it over, jail them. If they flee, give them the appropriate number of stars.
#
Equal PVP
If two prisoners are only fighting with their fists, you must separate them using your knockback stick. If one prisoner draws a sword and begins fighting with it, it is your job to subdue the armed prisoner. If both prisoners draw swords and begin fighting each other, you must subdue them as quickly as possible. As a guard, you are considered to be in the process of intervening if you witness a conflict and are moving towards it. If you are in the process of intervening in any of these conflicts, and you witness one prisoner kill another, you are then permitted to either subdue the attacking prisoner, or jail them for the appropriate amount of time.
#
Safe Zone Trolling
If a prisoner hits you with their fist and runs back into a Safe Zone more than 3 times, give them a PvP Abuse Warning by calling them out by username in chat if they continue, jail them for the appropriate length of time.
If a prisoner hits you with a weapon and runs back into a Safe Zone, tell the player to re-enter the PvP area so you can subdue them.
#
No Grudges
If a prisoner or group of prisoners kill you, you are not permitted to punish them unless you witness another infraction in a new shift. Revenge killing as a player is also not allowed.
#
Proper Equipment Usage
Randomly using any guard equipment on a prisoner when it isn't necessary is against the rules (this includes non-lethal equipment like the knockback stick).
#
Guard Requests
Players may ask guards for protection at airdrops or an escort to all legal areas (e.g., not the contraband seller). Guards may accept or decline at their discretion.
#
Area Specific Rules
Some areas of the prison will require a more nuanced approach.
#
The Armory
If a prisoner enters the armory, guards are permitted to kill them on sight and without warning.
#
The Sewers
Guards are only permitted to enter the sewers when pursuing an offender.
#
KOTH
If the KOTH Event is active, you may not jail a prisoner who has escaped into it. This is the only area in which you may not jail someone. You may wait for a wanted prisoner just outside or for a prisoner to warp to the KOTH area. However, you may not jail them if they just died and respawned. Do your best to check chat for a death log message before jailing. Mistakes may happen while enforcing this policy; however, you should air on the side of jailing a wanted player and un-jailing them quickly instead of losing the chance at jailing them on their first warp.
If the KOTH event is not active, a player may be jailed in the KOTH PvP area without exception.
#
Loitering
If a prisoner is caught loitering within a distance of 10-15
blocks of a high-risk/high-traffic area, guards may give the prisoner a 30-45-second
window to clear out of the area. Failure to comply will result in the appropriate amount of jail time.
#
KOTH/Events
Under no circumstances is a guard permitted to participate in any server event while on duty. Doing so is grounds for immediate dismissal.

#
Put Valuable Items In The Armory
Valuable loot is at least diamond tier with at least one custom enchantment, something that you can imagine being happy with obtaining from the armory. (If you are unsure of an item's quality, ask a higher-ranking guard or a member of staff.)
If you acquire valuable loot during your shift, ensure it is deposited in the armory. In contrast, whatever else you acquired should stay in your inventory and be destroyed upon going off duty.
Do not fill the armory with junk items; doing so will result in a warning, and further breaking this rule will result in demotion.
#
Complete Your Tasks
If you are in the middle of equalizing a conflict, escorting a prisoner, or patrolling an airdrop, you are not permitted to go off duty until the task has been finished.
#
Don't Abandon Prisoners
If you are currently guarding a high traffic/high risk area, don't leave prisoners to die. Ensure the area is free of any prisoners in need, proceed to a neutral area of the prison, and then go off duty.
#
Extenuating Circumstances
Obviously, there will be some situations that force us to step away from our computers at inconvenient times. If such a situation arose, an on-duty guard should notify others that they need to go AFK, step into a neutral area, and go off duty.
#
While Off Duty
#
No Special Treatment
You are no different from any other prisoner and will not receive special treatment from other guards (e.g., if a guard on duty asks for your sword, you must drop it). You are not allowed to use any of your guard equipment while off duty.
#
Patrolling The Prison
Please remember that prisoners may need your help without asking for it first. If you know an airdrop is coming or intuit that a prisoner is heading to a PvP area without protection, feel free to patrol those areas to maintain safety.
#
Common Sense
If a particular situation is not listed here, use your brain; if you are in the wrong, we will most likely give you a warning and add guidance to this list of rules.
